An Alnico magnet is a permanent magnet made primarily from Aluminum (Al), Nickel (Ni), and Cobalt (Co)—hence the name Al-Ni-Co. It also typically contains iron and small amounts of copper and titanium.

Advantages

• Strong magnetic field compared with many traditional magnets.
• Excellent temperature resistance—can operate up to about 500–550°C, much higher than neodymium magnets.
• Very stable magnetic properties over time.
• Resistant to corrosion, so they often don't require protective coatings.

Disadvantages

• Easier to demagnetize than neodymium magnets if exposed to opposing magnetic fields or physical shock.
• More brittle than ordinary steel.
• Not as powerful as modern neodymium magnets of the same size.
